October: A Month of Personal Harvest
October is hands down my favorite month. Every year l look forward to a visit to Lynd's Fruit Farm in Pataskala, Ohio. My husband and I get in the car on a crisp day and take in the leaves displaying their glorious colors as we travel the country road. Once we reach the farm, I pour through bushel baskets brimming with gourds and Indian corn, wander the pumpkin patch, and pluck ripe apples from the trees. In addition, I reflect upon the hard work that was put in months before by the Lynd's in anticipation of this one month of autumn abundance. This month, why not have a personal harvest? Step 1: Reap The farmers have been working for months to get their crops in peak condition and are now ready to reap their produce. How satisfying it must be to finally be rewarded with excited children picking out the perfect pumpkin for a jack-o-lantern or seeing a family pick their own apples. Even non-farmers need a time to stop and relish in their successes. Take time to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Reflect upon the hard work you have put into your life. We can get discouraged when looking at how far we have to go. Instead, look at how far you've come. Ask yourself - What have I accomplished in the last week? Month? Year? Write down you answers so that you can see just how voluminous your response is. In our fast paced society, it can be easy to always ask "What's next?" But stopping to celebrate our successes can be invigorating, providing the enthusiasm and energy needed to tackle that next project. Step 2: Share Famers offer their harvest to others. It could be that extra tomato given to the neighbor or acres of soybeans sold for profit. Either way, the produce must be used or it has no value. Now look at you list of accomplishments. What have you learned that you can share with others? How can the things you have "harvested" be used to serve the community -- either on a volunteer basis or for profit? Limiting Perceptions and Broadening Horizons
If you live in modern society I'm sure at some point in your life you've sat in a window seat of an airplane looking down at the fluffy blanket of clouds and thought to yourself, 'Wow, it's so big and flat, fluffy and soft, I wonder what it would feel like to lay down on that super-soft mattress.' Last night I watched a show on TV entitled, "Limits of Perception" that showed our newly discovered microcosms and macrocosms of life with photography from atomic force microscopes up to the Hubble telescope that looks out into the vast Universe. We can now see below the level of atom, creatures one-tenth of a millimeter long that resemble the monsters of our dreams, and thousands of galaxies grouped together in super-clusters (each galaxy containing billions of stars like our own Sun).
Releasing the Illusion of Control
It's amazing how easy it is to convince ourselves that we're in control of everything in our lives. When it comes right down to it, what we eventually learn is that we are in control of only two things: our own thoughts, and our own actions. We can fool ourselves into thinking that we can control our spouses, children, friends, employers, etc. But are we really in control? We can plot, manipulate, connive and cajole in order to get our own way, but ultimately the other person makes their own decision. We didn't force anything to happen. We may have encouraged it, but we didn't cause it.

The Power You Possess
What you need to understand is that there is no barrier to what is possible. It doesn't matter what it looks like. Everything that you desire is possible. Everything! The force of creation that you possess allows you to create anything you desire even though it doesn't exist as yet. You possess the power and no one can take it away from you. The force of creation is working within you at all times creating your life from your beliefs. Your beliefs affect your attitude, actions and your results.
